Halden

Halden

Halden, Norway's border town with Sweden in the eastern part of the country, bears clear historical and visual traces of its role as a significant border city. The city's character is shaped by this important position, particularly evident through the majestic Fredriksten Fortress that looms over the city.

Halden can also proudly boast a rich history as one of Norway's oldest industrial cities. This is partly attributed to the favorable access to power harnessed from the waterfall in the river Tista, which marks the lower part of the Halden watercourse. Apart from the forestry industry, Halden was previously renowned for its substantial production of textiles, especially shoes.
